Three Shaman Brothers of Igloolik/Repulse Bay: Ivaluardjuk, Aua and Pilakapsi

Shaman

The shaman is an intellectual and spiritual figure. He or she is regarded as possessing spiritual powers with influences on the spiritual world, which govern the physical world. He/she has considerable influence over people in the tribe and performs several functions, primarily that of a spiritual mediator and healer. The shaman provides medical care and serves other community needs during crisis times, via "supernatural" means.
